Adult ADHD Assessment

Neurodiversity-affirming assessments to help you make sense of overwhelm, executive functioning struggles, and how you work best.

Have you ever seen that meme that says, ‘My mind is like my internet browser—17 tabs open, 3 of them are frozen, and I have no idea where the music is coming from,’ and thought, ‘OMG, that’s me!’ If so, you’re in the right place!

(We promise not to ask you which tab the music is coming from—we know that's part of the mystery.)

Our comprehensive ADHD diagnostic process is here to provide clarity and validation.

Do I Have ADHD?

Many adults seeking ADHD assessments describe feeling out of sync with the pace of daily life. You might feel like you’re moving between bursts of energy, overwhelm, and shutdown. Tasks that others complete with ease may feel like insurmountable obstacles, and your mind may jump from thought to thought, making it hard to focus or finish what you start. You may find yourself losing track of time, feeling forgetful, or missing appointments despite your best intentions. There’s often an internal narrative of self-doubt: “Why can’t I just get it together?” This constant effort to “keep up” can feel exhausting and isolating.

For many individuals—especially those assigned female at birth (AFAB) or those who mask their symptoms—these experiences may have been dismissed or overlooked in the past. You might have heard phrases like “Everyone has trouble concentrating sometimes” or “You seem fine, you’re just overthinking it.” These invalidating experiences can lead to years of self-doubt, misdiagnosis, and second-guessing. Seeking an adult ADHD assessment isn’t just about getting a diagnosis—it’s about reclaiming your story and understanding yourself through a compassionate, affirming lens.

If these struggles resonate, you’re not alone. Our adult assessments for ADHD provide clarity, validation, and neurodiversity-affirming care, so that you can thrive.

But Isn’t Everyone a Little Bit ADHD? (insert eyeroll here)

You may have heard people say, “Everyone gets distracted sometimes” or “Isn’t everyone a little bit ADHD these days?” This common refrain can feel dismissive and invalidating, especially when you’ve lived with the unique challenges of ADHD. While many people experience moments of distraction or forgetfulness, ADHD is much more than that.

  • Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulses, emotions, and executive functioning.

  • It impacts daily life in consistent and pervasive ways that go beyond typical forgetfulness or distraction.

Seeking a diagnosis and support is not about seeking excuses—it’s about understanding yourself and accessing the tools you need to thrive. (And yes, thriving is actually an option for you).

What Does Neurodiversity-Affirming Assessment Mean?

A neurodiversity-affirming assessment is rooted in respect and recognition of the diverse ways in which human brains operate. Instead of viewing ADHD or autism solely through a deficit-based lens, we embrace the concept of different neurotypes and honor how you uniquely experience and navigate the world. A neurotype is simply how your brain processes information, experiences emotion and interacts with the world – no neurotype is better or “more right” than the other, they’re simply different.

We’re not here to check boxes—we’re here to connect dots. Your unique strengths and quirks? They’re part of the story we’re here to understand.

Here’s what that means for you:

  • Strengths-Based Approach: We focus on your strengths and unique abilities, not just the challenges you face.

  • Respect and Validation: Your experiences and feelings are valid. We listen without judgment and trust your lived experiences.

  • Cultural Sensitivity: We consider how your cultural background and experiences intersect with your neurodiversity, ensuring a holistic understanding of your identity.

  • Empowerment: Our goal is to help you understand yourself and feel more confident in who you are.

  • Collaborative Process: We see you as the expert in your life and make this process a partnership.

The ADHD Assessment Process

Our comprehensive ADHD diagnostic process is designed to provide you with clear, actionable insights while feeling supported every step of the way. For those of you wondering if there will be a comfy couch and inkblots to analyze: yes, there is a comfy couch (if you’re in office), no you don’t have to lie down on it if you don’t want to, and no, no inkblots here, just conversation and questionnaires for the most part. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect:

Talk to me about my options…

At Asha Mental Health, both our ADHD assessments for adults offer the same comprehensive testing, interviews, and measures to gather a full understanding of how your brain works. The difference lies in the report you’ll receive. Think of it as choosing between a summary sheet or the director’s cut—both tell your story, but one’s just longer and more detailed.

Option 1: ADHD Assessment with a
Brief Report

Cost: $2,000

Our brief report includes a high-level summary of key findings, confirmation of diagnosis, and an outline of helpful strategies. This 3-5 page document is designed to provide the essentials for accommodations or medical documentation without overwhelming detail.

Why Choose This Option?

  • You prefer concise information and a quick turnaround (3 weeks).

  • You’re seeking validation and a simple summary for work or healthcare needs.

  • You’re less likely to read through a longer, detailed document.

Option 2: ADHD Assessment with a Comprehensive Report

Cost: $3,000

The comprehensive ADHD evaluation report is a 10+ page document with an in-depth analysis of your assessment results. It covers executive functioning patterns, detailed explanations of your strengths and challenges, and personalized recommendations. Basically, ADHD has become your newest hyperfocus and you need to know all the things.

Why Choose This Option?

  • You want a detailed breakdown of your neurodivergent profile for personal understanding.

  • You need comprehensive documentation for higher education accommodations, more stringent worklpaces, or disability services.

  • You’re interested in tailored recommendations that go beyond general strategies and you know you won't remember them or find them on your own in the resource library.

Choosing between a brief and comprehensive report doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Here’s a TL;DR breakdown of key differences to help you decide:

Helpful Questions to Guide You in Choosing:

  • Do you prefer a quick overview or an in-depth explanation of your results?

  • Will you use the report mainly for accommodations, personal understanding, or both?

  • If you're seeking accommodations, does that setting accept a shorter letter or do they require a full evaluation?

  • How likely are you to read a longer report in detail?

Whatever option you choose, both assessments include our neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based approach and compassionate support.

Navigating Cost: Our Economic Justice Sliding Scale Explained

Thoughtful and affirming ADHD assessments require significant time, expertise, and specialized training to ensure that your unique experiences are understood and respected. However, we know this level of care comes with costs that can be difficult to access for some, which is why we offer a sliding scale.

Our sliding scale, inspired by the Green Bottle model created by Alexis J Cunningfolk (read more here), is designed to make care more accessible while promoting equity and sustainability. The idea is simple but impactful: each "bottle" represents a different tier of financial contribution, empowering you to choose the fee that aligns with your financial reality.

We believe that everyone should have access to compassionate, neurodiversity-affirming care, regardless of financial circumstances. This approach reflects our values of inclusion and social justice while also helping us sustain our practice and support others who need lower-cost options. When you select your tier thoughtfully, you contribute to a community of care that prioritizes fairness and accessibility for all.

How does it work?

Our sliding scale is designed to reflect different levels of financial privilege and access. Inspired by the Green Bottle model, each "bottle" represents a different tier of financial contribution, helping you choose a payment option that aligns with your current financial reality

  • The Left Bottle (Top Tier) represents individuals who have financial stability and can contribute the full fee, supporting the overall sustainability of our practice.

The Middle Bottle (Moderate Tier) reflects individuals who may need to budget but can still meet basic needs with some financial trade-offs.

  • The Right Bottle (Lower Tier) is for those experiencing significant financial hardship who may otherwise be unable to access services.

We trust you to choose the tier that aligns with your reality—no formal documentation or financial disclosures required. We ask that you select mindfully, as lower-tier spots are limited and reserved for those facing significant financial need.

The cost of our ADHD Assessment (Brief Report) is $2,000
The cost of our ADHD Assessment (Comprehensive Report) is $3,000

If you are interested in applying for a sliding scale assessment option, you can access the application form when completing the assessment interest forms. Please note that due to limited availability, middle and right bottle spots may have longer wait times.

FAQS

  • Our ADHD and autism assessment services are available for adults (age 18+).

  • We have a limited number of insurance-based spots for assessments to ensure we can manage our time and administrative workload effectively. Insurance based assessments come with a brief report. If you wish to have a comprehensive report, this would be an out of pocket add-on fee.

To balance our limited insurance availability, we’ve expanded our sliding scale offerings and partnered with CareCredit to make assessments accessible even without insurance. If we’re not in-network with your insurance, we’ll happily provide the necessary documentation for you to seek reimbursement. Find out more about what insurances we accept here.

  • An ADHD assessment can still provide valuable insights into how your brain works, your strengths, and areas where tailored strategies may help. Regardless of the diagnosis, you’ll walk away with a deeper understanding of yourself and personalized recommendations. You will also leave with a clear understanding of why a diagnosis did not fit for you.

  • No, we do not prescribe medication. However, we’ll collaborate with your prescriber and can provide suggestions if you need help finding a trusted provider.
