Individual therapy is a form of mental health treatment that is designed to help you explore your thoughts and feelings, gain insight into your behaviors and patterns, and develop coping skills to manage stress and other challenges.

In individual therapy, you'll work one-on-one with a trained mental health professional, who will provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to share your thoughts and feelings. Together, you'll identify the areas of your life that are causing you distress or discomfort, and work collaboratively to develop strategies to address these issues.

Therapy is not just for people with diagnosed mental health conditions. It can be beneficial for anyone who wants to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and improve their overall well-being. Therapy can help you develop greater self-awareness, improve your relationships, and enhance your overall quality of life.

The Process of Individual Therapy

Free Consultation

Not sure if we’re the right fit for you? Call us for a free 15-minute consultation where we can discuss your presenting concerns, answer any questions you have, and make sure we click together.

Initial Session

The first session is a “get to know you” session focused on exploring what is bringing you in for therapy. We’ll ask questions about your history and goals, and identify a path forward for you.

Goal Setting

In the first few weeks, we explore what you hope to get out of therapy so we can make sure we’re meeting your needs. We then use these goals as the blueprint for future sessions.

04.
Ongoing Sessions

Ongoing sessions are often weekly or biweekly for 50 minutes, with a focus on the goals you identified in our first few sessions.

  • Therapy is helpful for everyone! And there’s so much more to therapy than stereotypes would have you believe. The right therapist will create a treatment plan based on your struggles, goals, and preferences. No matter what you’re going through, whether you’re struggling with debilitating depression, a high-achiever who can’t find balance, or you just find yourself lost in the uncertainty of the times, therapy can give you the tools to better understand yourself, identify barriers to progress, and help you forge a path forward.

  • We work with adults (everyone age 18+).

  • Before your appointment, you’ll fill out paperwork so we can familiarize ourselves with your health history and current concerns.

    Your first appointment will be a little bit different than a typical therapy session; think of it as a getting-to-know-you session that future sessions will build upon. We will meet with you for an hour and learn about what you’re struggling with and what you want to achieve with therapy. We’ll ask you lots of questions to understand you better and identify how therapy might help you make progress. At the end, we may begin the process of goal setting, or that may unfold over the following few sessions.

  • Every session is unique; they can take many forms based on your goals and how you work best. We can make the time very structured, or keep the conversation free-flowing; we can incorporate skills- based activities or provide open-ended support. If you have a particular style of therapy you are looking for, let us know! And if you don’t know? That’s okay too. We will get to know you and ask you the right questions to determine the best fit.
